 I noticed that if you build the python bindings (i.e. --with-python=) but
 you don't have numpy installed then everything looks ok, but of course it
 will not work.

 Should we have a check on the 'configure' step to make sure that it you
 specify --with-python then you actually have all the dependencies ?  or
 not ?
