It would be nice if Nexus supported deleting of data.
This ticket is related to the following thread:

 http://lists.nexusformat.org/pipermail/nexus/2009/000332.html

It seems that hdf5 supports deleting (pointed out by Freddie):

 http://hdfgroup.org/hdf5-quest.html#del

and that it is possible to implement it for xml as well (pointed out by
 Darren Kelly):

 http://lists.nexusformat.org/pipermail/nexus/2009/000336.html

None of these solutions recover the space in the file but, at least, they
allow for restructuring the nexus tree and removing/changing metadata,
 which are my main concerns.
When saving space is a concern, recreating the file after filtering out
unwanted content seems the way to go (until hdf5 supports free space
 handling).

Comment:

We can only sort halfways for HDF 5, not for HDF 4 or XML.
There is not much interest. Closed.
