[NeXus-committee] Questionnaire Reminder

Hi,
   Here is the questionnaire response from the SLS:

* Facility name
Swiss Light Source

* Number of files/beamlines/instruments producing NeXus files
Zero.

* Number of files/beamlines/instruments producing NeXus files in 2 years
time
Up to four SLS beamlines will be using NeXus in 2 years time. The PolLux
beamline (where I work) will be using NeXus as its main data format as
soon as the new instrument control software is installed (by the end of
this year). Two other beamlines have plans to switch once the Eiger
detector (which will support HDF5) is released. One further beamline is
considering moving away from their current ASCII table based format and
NeXus is a strong contender.

* Barriers found for increasing NeXus use
NeXus is seen as a good idea, but people only want to change if their
current set-up is not working well. Beamlines that have issues with
massive data rates see HDF5 as the future and view NeXus compliance as
not costing much effort and worth having. Others feel limited by what
the facility supports (SLS Controls group in this case), as they don't
want to shoulder the burden of writing and maintaining software on their
own.

* Priorities for the NeXus community should be
Collect example files from as many instruments as possible so that
newcomers can find something similar to their instrument. The current
examples tend to be too simple to get a real idea of what is required
for a more complex instrument. We should also concentrate on getting new
facilities and instruments to adopt NeXus (where there is no inertia
issues). We should also be talking to the groups who are responsible for
writing and maintaining software at each facility and addressing any
concerns they might have.
