[NeXus-committee] NIAC meeting 2014

I think we really should revive the idea of getting funding from the facilities for these meetings. It is crazy that we are dependent on personal travel money that is always scarce, especially when it means that some facilities are geographically disadvantaged. It might even provide funding for other needed resources. Rob McGreevy, before he became the ISIS director (I'm sure he hasn't changed his mind), thought that it was a no-brainer for a facility to be prepared to pay a NIAC fee of a few thousand dollars in exchange for maintaining a world standard that is now beginning to save them much more money in development costs. The format is sufficiently mature and widely used for a fee like $5K pa per facility to be a sensible investment, and a drop in the bucket compared to their operational costs.

I'm prepared to draft a letter arguing the case to be sent to the facility directors if the committee thinks this is a good idea.
