[NeXus-committee] are there optional entries in application definitions ?

The concept that some parts of an application definition might be 
considered optional is now an open topic for debate.  Historically, the 
application definitions were decided (at a NIAC) to only include 
*required* items.  Since then, this decision has been challenged.

The NIAC would benefit with some clear and persuasive arguments for or 
against this from the Tech Committee.
