 Thanks for looking into this. There are two problems with your scheme:
  * it is no in all cases obvious with axes the information is for in
 multidimensional cases. In our proposal this is explicit.
  * while I like the idea to record the desired positions as axis, they
 might not be useful. If you are collecting on a tilted rectangular grid
 for example.
