[Nexus-developers] Multi-dimensional NX_CHAR arrays

These have been raised recently on the general NeXus mailing list and a
bug reported under http://trac.nexusformat.org/code/ticket/7 The HDF4
API used to handle them, but support has never been added in HDF5 or
XML. For compatibility reasons the HDF4 issue should be fixed, but there
is the more general question of their support via the other format. I
can't believe HDF5 is not able to handle them, but can they be nicely
formatted into XML while still handling embedded newlines/trailing
spaces etc.? Would CDATA sections and/or entity escapes handle it or
just look ugly?
