    Job Description for a PANDATA Data Format Scientist

    PANDATA is a collaboration of several european synchrotron and
    neutron scattering facilities which tries to establish  shared
    resources for facility user management, data catalogs and
    software. PANDATA has identified a common shared data format as a
    crucial component to make collaboration on data work. In order
    to establish such data formats PANDATA invites applications for the
    position of a PANDATA data format scientist.

    The successfull candidate will have to address the following
    tasks:
    - Organise workshops to disseminate information on data formats
    - Identify scientific communities at synchrotron and neutron
      facilities which have the potential to share data and software.
    - Reach out to such communities and work with them in order to
      establish a standardized data format.
    - Once a data format has been established actively work with data
      analysis and DAQ software authors to make popular software systems
      write and read the new format.
    This postion requires a scientific background in the materials science
    field, social skills and  programming experience. Some travel mostly
    within europe is to be expected.


   Note: we also have to decide where to place the person. Candidates:
   - If proximity to a NeXus expert is important then both ISIS or PSI
     fit the bill.
   - If proximity to CIF/CBF expertise is important, Grenoble would be
     the place to be (close to Andrew Hammersley)
