For those interested: NeXus packages for Ubuntu Lucid (10.04) and newer are available from a personal package repository (PPA).

The real quick instructions:

$ sudo add-apt-repository ppa:tsr-ubuntu/nexus
$ sudo apt-get update
$ sudo apt-get install nexus-tools

Following the packaging policy there are separate packages with just the library, the development files, the Java and Python bindings and the NeXus applications.

Slightly more information is on the PPA page itself:

https://launchpad.net/~tsr-ubuntu/+archive/nexus/<https://launchpad.net/%7Etsr-ubuntu/+archive/nexus/>

We are working on getting these packages into Debian which will (after some time) make them part of the official Ubuntu (universe) package set. Then they would be available for installation automatically.
