Dear colleagues,

After NOBUGS is best for me.
Geographically close to NOBUGS is good, although not a show-stopper.

Regards,

Nick.

Subject: [NeXus-committee] Next NIAC meeting

Dear colleagues,
There has been some behind-the-scenes correspondence concerning the date and
place of the next NIAC meeting, but I thought we should probably debate this
on the list now. As many of you know, there will be a NOBUGS meeting at PSI
from October 18-20, 2004, which Mark is helping to organize. It clearly
makes sense to coordinate our meeting so that committee members can attend
both in one trip.

Mark had an interesting suggestion. They had considered using a hotel in
Zurzach (do a Google search on the web) for NOBUGS, but it was a little too
small. However, it would be ideal for NIAC. Although we had wondered about
holding the meeting in Grenoble, I think it makes sense to hold it close to
Zurich since Mark will find it difficult to travel too far close to NOBUGS.
I also think it makes sense to hold it just after NOBUGS (say Oct. 21-22 or
22-23 - do people mind meeting on a Saturday?) rather than before, when
NOBUGS organization will be at its most intense.

Przemek has confirmed that we have funding to provide travel support. Since
the committee has expanded, it may not be quite as generous as last year but
should be substantial enough to persuade your management to let you go.

This is not yet an official proposal, but we should make a final decision
fairly soon so that we can start the preparations. If you have any comments
or counter-suggestions, please make them to this list.

Thanks,
Ray
