[NeXus-committee] How to validate NeXus data files?

The manual describes two validation tools:
- nxvalidate “Utility to convert a NeXus file into HDF4/HDF5/XML/...”
- NXvalidate (in development in 2010)
Q1: why is a validation tool described as a conversion tool?
Q2: what's the status of NXvalidate 4 years after 2010?
The Debian package nexus-tools for amd64, version 4.3.2-svn1921-2
comes without either tool.
So I installed nexus-4.3.1 from source.
No success either.
I tried 'autoreconfigure -if', and went again through
./configure, make, make install.
Still no NXvalidate, but there is nxvalidate.
However, it fails to execute:
$ nxvalidate 035248.nxs
Error: Unable to access jarfile /usr/local/share/java/NXvalidate.jar
Q3: How to proceed?
I urgently need to validate some files before we tie down
output formats for a number of instruments.
