Add in files needed by autoconf - mostly working; try

   ./configure
   make clean
   make all

from the top directory. You can also do e.g.

  ./configure --with-hdf4=/local/hdf4

to specify a directory - configure will try a few common
locations though, so hopefully not needed too often.

  ./configure --help    

will list all available options
