Dear Mark and Pete,
This is a very useful paper. Here are a couple of wording suggestions:
1. "The NeXus data format is dual purpose: NeXus
can be used as a container format to store as much data as possible
about a beamline.
Such use is actively encouraged. The other use case of NeXus is to
define verifiable
standards for the application of NeXus to a well defined experimental
technique. "
might read better as
"The NeXus data format has two purposes. First, NeXus defines a
format that can serve as a container for all relevant data associated
with a beamline, an increasingly important function. Second, NeXus
defines standards in the form of ``application definitions'' for the
representation of information defining various experimental
techniques."
2. As a glocal change, I suggest changing ``as much data as possible
about'' to ``all relevant data associated with'' and in the first use
within the body of the text expanding to
``all relevant data (e.g. experimental set-up, environmental
parameters, positioner
settings, raw data and, if appropriate, processed data) associated with''
Regards,
Herbert
