Our user facility is adopting NeXus to support our mix of soft x-ray, time resolved experiments. If anyone already has mappings that relate to our specific experiments, I’d be interested to review them as an example and/or discuss the mapping choices we are assessing.

Key technical background for our experiments:

  *
Ultrafast time resolution with pump-probe experiments
  *
XUV/Soft x-ray probe pulses, generated by high harmonic generation, energy range of 10 to 200 eV
  *
High harmonic generation driven by infrared (1030 nm) pulsed laser sources with pulses compressed to 250, 40, or 8 fs duration
  *
Tunable pulsed laser sources as pump sources
  *
Variety of end stations for sample analyses

Plan so far:

  *
Use NXoptical_spectroscopy for static and time-resolved transmittance and reflectance spectroscopy experiments
  *
Use NXstm and NXsts (contributed definitions) for static and time-resolved STM experiments. We have completed a first implementation of this and are happy with it
  *
Use NXmpes_arpes for static and time-resolved ARPES experiments
  *
For time-resolved measurements, add a scan dimension to the data sets linked to the delay stage position that is controlling the pump-probe time delay

Main questions so far:

  *
Our transmittance and reflectance measurements could be treated as “NXxas” and “NXref”. At our energies, our approach is better matched to “NXoptical_spectroscopy”. Instead of a scanning monochromator, we use a dispersive grating to measure the transmitted/reflected spectrum on a CCD. Have other facilities taken one approach or the other for our photon energy range?
  *
NXsource does not include high harmonic generation as a standard type, so I plan to implement it as a custom type. Has anyone else already implemented this as custom type?

Best regards,
