[NeXus-committee] Charge to instrument editors

I was at a video conference last month where a question was posted to six neutron facilities (spallation and reactor): what is your status with reguard to NeXus? Everyone answered the same. They are waiting for instrument definitions, then they will start using NeXus. Your work will solve this problem.

The appropriate base class pages will be updated later today. You need to start work on your instrument definition for discussion at the NIAC meeting next month. There is a page for each instrument at <http://www.neutron.anl.gov.:8080/NeXus/7> for you to publish your definition at. Some of the definitions will be ratified, so if yours is not ready please put a note at the top of the definition to that effect ("Not to be ratified in October 2004," for example). Even if the definition is not to be ratified it will be used to see if the base classes are complete and correct so please start working on them soon. The instrument definition lists what is *REQUIRED* for data from your instrument to be analyzed/treated. If it is not required then don't include it. Examples of things that every instrument will need: counts array, detector position, and information about the radiation source.

Thank you for your help,
Peter Peterson
Executive Secretary, NIAC
