[NeXus-tech] What kind of NeXus data file is it?

Given a particular NeXus data file, how does discover which application
definition should be used to validate?

One case is the "simple example" on http://www.nexusformat.org/Design,
which does not refer to any application definition NXDL.

Another example, though, is the (SVN)/definitions/test/NXmonopd.hdf
example which should be validated by
(SVN)/definitions/applications/NXmonopd.nxdl.xml.

This understanding is key to the process of automated validation of
NeXus data files.
